Another day goes by...

How many times do we need to say this? It's 2021, Mental Health should be the Top Priority for Emergency Services, including frontline workers. Oh, let's not forget our retirees, they also need to have paid access to mental health care. They've dedicated their lives to serving their communities, sacrificed so much, we simply owe them that service. Why is there such a divide amongst various organizations across Canada? Offering limited access or no access to mental health care

With a simple action you take, a difference you can make!

We have said it before, we are ready to establish our lifesaving mental treatment centre. For the past several years, The Haven's team members have been donating their time to make this much needed project a reality. The Haven has a unique approach offering services in both official languages, and its services will be "EXCLUSIVE" to First Responders & Uniform Personnel. The Haven will help to fill the gaps in mental health services currently being offered. If you want to make

Hardest thing I had to do and how it's impacting our lives.

I am a first responder in Ontario and have been for nearly 20 years. When I transferred to Eastern Ontario we got Jersey, our first canine family member. My wife and I were both physically active, plus running with a four-legged friend is always good for the morale. For 13 years we ran so many miles with her, pulling the strollers (yes single and double), pulling the kids on their sleigh, she literally did everything with us. Family trips, nature walks, family activities, you

Its 2020, GET WITH THE TIMES!

I am at a loss for words to say the least. If this is what is needed to change our National Police (RCMP) vision on mental health, then let's hope that many more will join this movement. Members SHOULD NOT have to go this far to be heard and be treated as human beings in order to get the help they need to deal with OSI's CAUSED by their line of work. The RCMP owes it to them. Although it is ultimately the employee's responsibility to ensure or look after their own mental well

Coroner's report on Police Suicides

This was released almost a year ago and what has changed? Did anything really change? For some Emergency Services, some improvement were seen, for others unfortunately not much has happened. What is really needed? Do you know? Being peers supporting other peers, we know that there are many gaps in mental health services currently offered to our First Responders and Uniform Personnel. In many cases, inpatient therapy is needed. The reality is that quick & affordable access to

Coping... an important skill to master!

Who needs coping skills? You don't have to be an emergency service worker to understand that you need great "coping skills" to handle what life throws at you. Learning how to "cope" and to master it, is definitely an essential life saving skill. If you struggle in this area, please consult with a professional forthwith and start developing this much needed skill. Wait no longer, you've got to take care of yourself.

Time to check-in with yourself / CIPSRT

Our lives are extremely busy. Between work expectations, workload demands and pressures, personal commitments and other family/ health issues, when do you ever take a moment to check-in with yourself? Let us guess, very rarely, perhaps never in some case. Body scans are very helpful when something feels off. Knowing your body and being able to recognize where the tensions are and where they are causing you harm is a proactive approach towards a good mental health. A healthy b

On July 30th 2019, the Provincial Government stated that 60% of Ontario’s Firefighters are volunteers, many serving in smaller communities.
